We’ve explained it before

2 Years ago, we’ve posted a repair page for the steering column covers for Toyota Hilux Pickup / 4Runner 1989-1995.(If you haven’t read it, click here.)But we didn’t provide the detail comparion. It seems that it’s better to provide more pictures and videos to help the buyers.

4 Types of Steering Column Cover

There are 4 types for Toyota Hilux Pickup / 4Runner 1989-1995; tilt or non tilt.The OEM numbers are too many to tell.(45287-35170, 45287-35200,45286-35260,45286-35280, 45286-35290, 45286-35330, 45286-35360,45286-04020, 45287-35210, 45287-35240, 45287-04020,45287-04010, 45286-04020, 45287-35230, 45286-35340, 45286-35350, 45023-35070). We’ve gotten lots of emails asking us for help. It means only OEM numbers are not enough to choose the correct one.

Moreover, we found out that the VIN doesn’t work on checking the compatibility. We can’t find the instructions to describe them clearly. There is no description to explain the tilt/ non tilt function; key lights or non key lights.  We believe that’s the reason people haven’t been able to tell the difference.  Let’s leave these OEM numbers behind.Just use these pictures to check the replacement.

We divide the pictures into two groups, long ones and short ones. In the long ones we can clearly see many differences in hole positions, and it is easy for us to think that these are incompatible. However, if we look at the other side, we can find that the fasten holes on the back of the upper cover can be roughly divided into two types, and we produce both types of upper covers.

We can fix the items

In fat, this is an old model, and it is not practical to invest money in developing new molds. Therefore, we tried to study the compatibility of the two undeveloped products.

• • TYPE 1: SYB4002(ZJTY1104GY)

• • TYPE 2: It can be replaced by Type 3, but the fasten pillar in the upper left corner needs to be cut off. Look at this picture. If it is not cut off, it will block the Tilt Bar.
    

    

    

  • TYPE 3: SY0195GY

• TYPE 4: Type 3 can be used instead. Basically it can be installed directly, but there will be one less fasten position. It is recommended to drill a hole in the red frame below and lock the screws.
